Kokia (Kokia drynarioides)

Physical Description

Kokia is a small tree or shrub endemic to Hawaii, typically reaching heights of up to 6 meters (20 feet). It has broad, dark green leaves and produces striking, bright red flowers. The tree is adapted to dry, rocky environments and has a gnarled appearance.

Environmental Concerns

Kokia is critically endangered due to habitat loss from urban development, invasive species, and changes in land use. Its restricted distribution makes it highly susceptible to environmental changes and human impacts.

Other Information

Conservation efforts for Kokia include propagation and reintroduction programs to increase its population in the wild. There are also ongoing efforts to control invasive species and restore native habitats in Hawaii.
