Physical Description
The Rimu is a large evergreen tree native to New Zealand, reaching heights of up to 50 meters (164 feet). It has a straight trunk with reddish-brown bark and a dense, feathery canopy of dark green, needle-like leaves. It produces small, woody cones that contain the seeds.
Environmental Concerns
The Rimu is endangered due to habitat loss from logging and land conversion for agriculture. Invasive species and climate change also threaten its populations, impacting its natural forest habitats.
Other Information
Conservation efforts for the Rimu include protected areas and sustainable forestry practices to prevent overharvesting. There are also programs aimed at restoring native forests and controlling invasive species.
