Description:

Stands at around 30 meters tall but can reach up to 60 meters tall in native regions. Is characterized by its umbrella-shaped crown and its leaflets that fold up in the early evening and during cloudy weather during the day. Has a lifespan of 80-100 years. Best with full sun and moderate water. 

Distribution/Location: 

Native to Central and South America. Also found in Hawaii, Florida, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and the Northern Marianas. 

Environmental Concerns: 

Is overall beneficial to the environment; however, in certain areas is considered invasive due to its high adaptability, allowing it to outlive native vegetation. Small populations are being taken down in Hawaii due to its invasive nature.
